September MassMoCA Wedding: Daniel and Jeremy

Two grooms in beautiful soft light at their wedding at Mass MoCA in North Adamas MA

What led you to decide to celebrate the wedding the way that you did?

From the beginning we knew we wanted to have a non-traditional wedding surrounded by everyone who loves and supports us. When looking at venues in Brooklyn we realized that a lot of them were really small for the price so we decided to look outside of New York. Our search led us to Massachusetts where Daniel went to school at Williams College. Throughout our relationship we had been to Mass MoCA for exhibitions and summer music festivals so we investigated their wedding offerings. The gallery spaces, artwork, and location were everything we were looking for in our ideal wedding venue. We are also both artists so having our wedding amongst some of our favorite artists like James Turrell and Louise Bourgeois seemed like a dream!

Was there anything that surprised you about your wedding?

I think we were surprised at the amount of planning involved with the help of our vendors and the number of decisions we had to make on tableware, flowers, catering, music, stationary etc.

What were some of your favorite images? Was there one in particular that you loved the most?

It’s really hard to decide a favorite because we LOVE them all. However, we really can’t get over the sideview image of us emerging from the dark.  We also love the images of getting ready together at TOURISTS hotel. The images capture a calm moment before all the ceremony action started.

Any advice for couples going through this process or about to go through the process?

We suggest keeping Google Docs/Excel sheets to manage budgets and vendors to stay organized. In addition, we think it’s important to break “the rules” when it comes to your ceremony, venue, or fashion choices — do what feels right/inspiring to you. Remember to take time for self-care while wedding planning so you don’t get burnt out before the big day.

I’d love to connect with you about your Mass MoCA wedding
