Some thoughts from Sarah and Jason on their farm wedding in Block Island

Sarah and Jason’s Intimate Farm Wedding on Block Island, Rhode Island.

The couple exchanged their vows in front of their family and friends on a family friend’s farm. The ceremony location was personal and important to the couple. It was held on a small hilltop overlooking the Island, with serene ocean views. Sarah and Jason shared a few of their thoughts from their October wedding on Block Island.

What led you to decide to celebrate the wedding the way that you did?

We wanted to create a weekend for us and our guests to have fun! There are a lot of logistics involved in planning a Block Island wedding, especially one happening so late in the season, and our whole wedding came together thanks to the kindness of others. Family friends invited us to use their farm for our ceremony when they learned that we were engaged, another friend helped us arrange our reception space, Jason’s sister and brother-in-law catered. Our flowers, hair, makeup, transportation and accommodations all came together thanks to the kindness of islanders.

Was there anything that surprised you about your wedding?

How fast everything goes! You’ve hired people to take care of the logistics so lean on them. You’ve been responsible for making all the decisions up to this point but you really can’t do that the day of. Spend the time with your guests and not trying to direct the timing of the appetizers.

What were some of your favorite images?

Angie captured so many genuinely happy moments and those are what we love the most!

The photos from the receiving line are full of joy and love. It felt so good to see our friends and family, many of whom we hadn’t had the opportunity to hug since before the pandemic started.

After the ceremony, we stayed at the farm to take a few more photos with Angie. While we were walking, Sarah’s dress caught in some brambles. The photos of us untangling her are some of our favorites.

Any advice for couples going through this process or about to go through the process?

Please don’t drive yourself crazy over the small, and in our opinion, inconsequential details. The things your guests will remember from your wedding is how they felt, who they got to talk to, and how much fun they had. If you can focus on what kind of experience your guests will have rather than the perfect assemblage of décor your wedding will be better for it.
